About KynoInfo - program
Brief description about our data-collection with KynoInfo-Program
Since 1995 years we - that means U. Hermann and E. Steffen - work with the program to establish a data base to testify the breeding matters of the Leonberger breeding all over the world.
About 6/96 we found a co-worker in Arthur Muller from the Netherlands. Arthur managed it, to put it online - and so the Leonbergerdatabase was founded.
Presently the data base shows appr. 62,000+ data - tendency climbing -.
What is KynoInfo ?
KynoInfo is a PC-program which enables us to collect basic data, to print
6-generation-pedigrees and to find out "who fit’s well to whom" -
before breeding/mating is considered.
Information such as size, weight, HD-evaluation, ED, coat-colour, eye-colour,
dentition and much more can be collected.
It’s possible to find out how many males and bitches are in the breeding-pool, how many puppies are born, the degree of "Inbreeding"- and "Loss of Ancestors"-factor (how much are dogs related to each other).
What is the sense of this, what is it good for ?
The breeding is mainly done on the "Phenotyp" of the conc. dogs. The more important aspects like Healthiness (besides the HD-evaluation), longevity and others seem to be "less interesting/important".
It’s very clearly shown that the "winners" play an important part within this = almost everybody is running to the latest winner as long as he is winning .... and then to next winner .... as long ......and continuing that way means a high loss of diversity.
Winner x Winner does not necessarily mean to breed "Winner-puppies".
As yourself if it would be good for the breed (in the long run) to breed mainly for Beauty / Type instead of Healthiness,Character, Longevity.
The main purpose of KynoInfo for us is :
to continue with the Collection all available data
to put them into relation to each other
to give the data to those breeders / owners who ask for it and know what to do with it
The purpose of our datacollection is surely not to accuse humans or kennels, definitly not ..... well, we know that it is understood that way .... but those who think that, are wrong !
Breeders which are interested in "breeding" rather than "producing" are those, who might understand and to those the KynoInfo might be helpful.
To continue our work we search all information conc. the Leonberger, such as
dogs which reached a very high age by being almost healthy
dogs which were not healthy at all
dogs which died very young ....
and.... more
We are aware of the fact that some/many people look at us with suspicion but everybody is welcome to get information. We have nothing to hide!
Our work with KynoInfo is depending on the facts, given to us and/or picked up in studbooks or "official magazines", published by the clubs.
Our aim is to find out
the strength and the weakness of the breed
and this just for the purpose to help "the breed in generally"and by doing this to help the owners .... because of one thing we (Hermann-Steffen-Muller) are very sure: no Leo-Fancier would like to have a sick but beautiful dog and nobody like the idea to loose the dog at an average age of about 6,5 - 7 years. We can surely all agree on one thing "we would like to have our dogs as healthy as possible and we would like them to reach as many years lifetime as possible".
